To encourage outstanding domestic agricultural scientists and teams engaged in forward-looking, innovative, socio-economic development, environmental sustainability, and significant industry contributions, the Ministry of Agriculture established the "National Agricultural Science Award." This award is held biennially, with the 2023 edition being the third.
This year, the competition featured four categories: Socio-economic development, Forward-looking innovation, Industry leadership, and Environmental sustainability. A total of 71 team research achievements were recommended and competed, with 11 teams receiving awards across all categories.
The "Collaboration Scallion Industry"(合力蔥產業) team, which includes Professor Ting-Hsuan Hung, focused their research on "Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Strategies for Reducing Pesticide Use in Scallions to Ensure Safe and Sustainable Industry Development." The team not only developed and promoted new scallion varieties and IPM practices but also effectively mitigated cultivation risks by relocating species for conservation outside their native habitats, ensuring a stable supply of healthy seedlings for summer production.
Additionally, they developed the heat-resistant Lanyang No. 5 variety to further support the sustainable development of the industry. Their research achievement was honored as an "Excellent Team in Socio-Economic Development" at the 2023 National Agricultural Science Award. Congratulations once again to Professor Hung!
